Metastatic adenocarcinomas are tumors that have spread beyond the tissue in which they began. For cancers such as breast cancer and colon cancer, these are considered stage 4 tumors. With metastatic or stage 4 adenocarcinomas, the tumor may be any size and involve (or not involve) any lymph nodes, but it has spread (metastasized).
